10 Modern Supercars Pushing The Boundaries Of Power

10.Mercedes-AMG One: 1,049 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.8 Seconds

Mercedes-AMG brought forth an F1 engine into their road-going supercar, in what is perhaps one of the most complicated yet impressive production engines of all time. Armed with the hybrid unit from Mercedes’ 2015 Formula One car, the AMG One rides on a 1.6-liter turbo V6 motor making 566 horsepower.

Combined with three 120 kW motors and another 90 kW motor, adding up to a quad-motor setup, the Mercedes-AMG One makes a whopping 1,049 hp. Making the dash from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, the AMG One is a gorgeous hybrid supercar that flips the script by not just using a small-displacement F1 motor, but also using electric power to cross the 1000-hp mark with ease.

9.Koenigsegg Agera RS: 1,160 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.8 Seconds

If you thought the Koenigsegg Agera was powerful, the RS variant dials it up to eleven. Once the fastest car in the world, the Agera RS boasts a fantastic top speed of 277 mph, while dashing from nought to sixty in just 2.8 seconds.

Plus, with 1,160 horses under the hood, the Agera RS is of course, one of the most powerful supercars out there. In fact, if the 1,160 hp figure of the Agera RS doesn’t quite cut it for you, the ‘1Megawatt’ package takes things further up a notch or two, bumping the Koenigsegg Agera RS horsepower to 1,341 hp.

8.Koenigsegg One:1: 1,360 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.6 Seconds

Another faultless Koenigsegg, the One:1 gets its name from its awe-inspiring hp-to-kg curb weight ratio. Weighing 1,360 kg (2998 lbs), the Koenigsegg One:1 makes 1,360 horsepower, delivering one of the most impressive power-to-weight ratios ever.

Featuring a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the ‘One to One’ can reach the 60 mph mark in a mere 2.6 seconds, while propelling all the way to 249 mph. Truly a breakthrough in automotive excellence with high horsepower and equal weight, the Koenigsegg One:1 has cemented its name in the automotive hall of fame.

7.Chiron Super Sport 300+: 1,577 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.3 Seconds

The fastest car in the world being a Bugatti comes as no surprise, as the Veyron 16.4, the Veyron Super Sport, and the Chiron, have all held that crown at launch. In 2006, with the launch of the Bugatti Veyron, high-horsepower supercars were back in fashion, and Bugatti has never stopped or slowed down since then.

The 2021 Bugatti Chiron Sport 300+ makes a massive 1,577 horsepower, blazing to the 60 mph mark in just 2.3 seconds. However, its biggest glory is its 304 mph top speed, which makes it the king of the hill when it comes to the fastest supercars in the world.

6.Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut: 1,600 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.6 Seconds

Koenigsegg’s latest, the Jesko Absolut is the biggest contender to the crown held by the Bugatti Super Sport 300+ of being the fastest car in the world. While an official test run is still pending, Koenigsegg claims a 330 mph top speed for this behemoth of a car.

The 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine in the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut jets out a massive 1,600 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft of torque. With both torque and horsepower figures in quadruple digits, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut does hold the power to make short work of the fastest production car speed record, but whether it is up to the task is still to be seen. Nevertheless, the Jesko Absolut is absolutely one of the most powerful cars of our time.

5.Hennessey Venom F5: 1,817 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.6 Seconds

The Venom F5 came after the Hennessey GT, which was the original flagship from the American supercar manufacturer. Riding on a massive 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine titled ‘Fury’, the Hennessey Venom F5 jets out a heart-thumping 1,817 horsepower with, 1193 lb-ft of torque.

With that sort of power, the Hennessey Venom F5 blitzes from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, making for one of the fastest supercars in the world. The Hennessey Venom F5 boasts a top speed of 271 mph. When it comes to making the fastest supercars, Hennessey has cemented its name right beside that of Bugatti and Koenigsegg, thanks to legendary supercars like the Venom GT and the Venom F5.

4.Pininfarina Battista: 1,900 HP, 0 To 60 In 1.7 Seconds

The world’s quickest EV in production, the Pininfarina Battista has one of the richest heritages in automotive history. From the house of the legendary Italian designers, the Battista rides on a staggering 1,900 horsepower and 1,725 lb-ft of torque.

Armed with a 120 kW battery and a quad-electric-motor setup, the Pininfarina has the world’s fastest 0 to 60 time for a production EV, as it dashes from zero to 60 mph in a matter of 1.79 seconds. For the enthusiasts who love poring over the facts and specs, the Pininfarina Battista, does, in fact, share its battery with the Rimac Nevera, which is just as quick.

3.Rimac Nevera: 1,914 HP, 0 To 60 In 1.7 Seconds

In the new age of EV supercars, the Rimac Nevera is on top of the hill, especially when it comes to visibility and popularity. The 120 kW battery in the Nevera makes 1,914 horsepower, which is just 4 units higher than the Pininfarina Battista. Interestingly, while the two EV supercars do share the same battery pack, the Nevera not only makes 4 more horsepower, but also 16 more lb-ft of torque, coming in at 1,741 lb-ft.

With a 1.7-second 0 to 60 mph time, the Rimac Nevera is not just one of the fastest EVs in the world, but also one of the quickest cars ever made, as it manages to reach the 60 mph mark in well under 2 seconds, and consistently so.

2.Lotus Evija: 1,972 HP, 0 To 60 In 3.0 Seconds

When it comes to the highest horsepower EV supercars in the world, the Lotus Evija reigns supreme, making 1,972 horsepower and 1,254 lb-ft of torque with its 70 kW battery pack and four electric motors. Lotus is aiming at a sub-3-second 0 to 60 mph time for the Evija, and judging from the Battista, the Aspark Owl, and the Rimac Nevera, the Evija, too, will easily be able to dash past the 60 mph mark in less than 2 seconds.

With an electronically-limited top speed of 218 mph, the Lotus Evija is far from the fastest supercars in the world, but it is certainly one of the quickest cars. Production of the Lotus Evija will only see 130 units come off the line, with each selling for a whopping $2.3 million.

1.SSC Tuatara Aggressor: 2,200 HP, 0 To 60 In 2.5 Seconds

The SSC Tuatara holds the title of being the fastest American car, making 1,890 horsepower and boasting a phenomenal top speed of 286 mph. Of course, for modern supercar manufacturers, the pursuit of speed and excellence never stops, and the Tuatara Aggressor is an even higher-performance variant of the base supercar.

Making a massive 2,200 horsepower, the Tuatara Aggressor would easily reach the 60 mph mark much faster than the base Tuatara’s already-impressive 2.5 seconds. While it isn’t road-legal, the SSC Tuatara Aggressor is no doubt one of the fastest supercars in the world, and also one of the most sought-after.
